Great first week!

Chancel Choir sounded wonderful on Sunday in worship! Maybe it was just me enjoyed their return, but I think the anthem was sung thoughtfully and musically. We still have yet to see the full group return, so I can't wait to hear what we will sound like then. Keep thinking about those who you could invite to join us as we begin the new season. Thanks to Nancy and Beth again for a nice lunch after church - it was good to get together. See you Wednesday!

Return to choir

I just want to say how much I enjoyed hearing and seeing the choir last night at rehearsal. You have been missed, and it was so much fun to preview the music for the fall. Those are the times I most enjoy in my work at the church, and thanks for each of you who make it all happen. Here's to another great year together!

Concerts, concerts, concerts

"Alright, so what's the deal here? Isn't this a church music ministry? What's all this talk about concerts?"
You're right, we have an amazing music ministry here at St. Luke's with great choirs that lead an uplifting worship service week after week. But, I am very excited about our Celebrate the Arts series of events coming up here over the next few months. This outreach to our community and congregation continues to grow, and we are privileged to host and share these programs. Check out what's coming up:

Japan Fire Mass Gospel Choir, Sunday, February 13 at 7 p.m. In conjunction with Dodd-Sterling UMC and the Atlanta Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, this unique ensemble will sing gospel music in traditional Japanese kimonos.

Wooster College Chorus, Thursday, March 17 at 7 p.m. This college chorus has a reputation for excellence, and they will be presenting their concert tour program in our sanctuary.

Atlanta Balalaika Society Orchestra Ensemble, Sunday, March 20 at 5 p.m. Hear uniquely Russian stylings and folk music presented by members and friends of the ABSO, one of only a handful such orchestras in the US.

Chastain @ St. Luke's, Sunday, April 17 at 6 p.m. Back by popular demand, this concert by member musicians in the Bruce Jones Band and St. Luke's singers is presented in the style of the Chastain amphitheater and is a delightful treat for all ages. Bring your own picnic supper and many friends for this annual event.

So, now you know what all the excitement is about. Put these dates on your calendar and join us!

Musical Outreach

The church staff spent this morning at the CAC, Community Action Center, in Sandy Springs. We learned some amazing things about what is going on in our community and how those in need are being helped on a daily basis. In our discussions with the staff there, they expressed a need for music during their holiday party at Sandy Springs UMC on Saturday, December 18. They would need a group of singers or ringers (or both!) for about a 15 minute session of music between the hours of 1 and 3 pm. Since our rehearsal for Lessons and Carols is earlier that day in the morning at St. Luke's, I thought it would be a perfect time for some of us to take some of our carols to their party. Needy families who have been "adopted" by others receive their Christmas presents at this event along with refreshments and music. Put that date and time range on your calendar and be a part of supporting this important work in our community.

Also, remember that we will be going Christmas caroling on Tuesday, December 21 from 6 to 8 pm. We are always open to suggestions as to where to take the music of the season to those who most need uplifted at that special time of year, so let me know of people and places that could benefit from hearing us sing. We'll meet at the church to carpool and return for some light (but warm!) refreshments following.

'Tis the season!

Three Choirs

No, it's not the Three Tenors, or the Three Musketeers, but we are having three choirs sing in worship this Sunday at the 11:00 service.

Youth Choir singers –As you voted at rehearsal, we WILL sing “Give Me Jesus” at the 11:00 service this Sunday. We will meet in the choir room at 9:30 am to warm up and practice it in the sanctuary. I hope you ALL will be able to join us! We also had a record turnout at our rehearsal with 13 singers. Keep coming and inviting your friends!

Westminster singers – We are singing “Santo, Santo, Santo” this Sunday at the 11:00 service. Be in the choir room at 10:30 am with your robe to warm up and rehearse our anthem for the morning. You will find the words to the anthem below. We will only sing Part I (another choir is singing Part 2). It’s great to have you all singing with the group! Also, if you haven’t yet let me know whether you can sing with the Choral Guild at their Christmas concert, send me a quick message so I know how many can sing.

Santo, santo, santo. ¡Mi corazón te adora! Mi corazón te sabe decir: ¡Santo eres Señor!

Holy, holy holy. My heart adores you! My heart is glad to say the words: Holy is the Lord!

Chancel Choir singers - We will have our normal warm up to prepare for singing "The Best of Rooms" during the morning offering at 11:00.

See you ALL Sunday!
